Happy new year everyone!

This is the first post after more than one and a half year of silence, due to pandemic and personl reasons.

Even though I did not post anything new all this time, I have never stopped researching actively, almost daily, into the CreatiVision world, I have collaborated with collectors and enthusiasts, and in the end I got so much new material, that I realised that the time had come for me to share it all with this small community! So here we are with a new, massive site update, that fills more gaps in the history of this obscure console! :-)

Before leaving you with the (usual) bullet list of new items available for (free!) access in the sub-sections of the website, I will point out the main items included in this update:

For the very first time, we have proof that an U.S. NTSC version of the CreatiVision really exists! One unit was spotted by an American collector who reported the unit being purchased in Hong Kong (altough clearly indicating it was designed to work in U.S.A). I believe that the unit was part of a very limited batch of units assembled in the hope for VTech to find a company willing to distribute the system in the U.S.A. but eventually these units remained in Hong Kong until U.S. travellers bought them from some shop.

Two very kind Japanese collectors (Takaaki and Proudrow) have contributed by sending me scans of Japanese editions of CreatiVision games, including boxes and manuals. I was very surprised to discover that manuals come in two versions: an older revision in black and white, and a more recent (and more widespread) version with the lovely coloured artworks. I have uploaded all the scanned manuals in my possession - available in the usual "Sofware" section.

A catalogue from a British videogame expo fair, which took place in 1983, mentions the CreatiVision system as distributed by Leisure Zone. This seems to confirm that VTech had attempted to promote their system in UK at the time. No mystery that several units found in Europe are marked "UK PAL".

Two obscure books of programs have surfaced recently, one being the "Funvision" version of the "First Book of Programs for the Wizzard" containing the same programs as the Wizzard version, but of course all references to Wizzard have been changed into Funvision. The second book is even more obscure and it is a book of listings of programs and games for the Salora Fellow and Manager (Finnish versions of VTech Laser 200 and Laser 2001). A few listings were converted into BASIC text file, cassette and floppy disk "dumps" by our friend Kym Greenshields. These files are now available for download in the usual "BASIC Programs" section.

A lot of scans of Finnish Salora and VTech Laser 2001 editions of game cartridges, boxes and manuals were submitted by our Finnish contributor, that is a 'regular' on this website: Jarkko. Thanks so much for the invaluable help!

Last but not least, I recently took part to a Youtube live event dedicated to homebrew production for retro-systems. I spoke about my experience as designer and producer of the Multicart, Diagnosticart, and my approach to the preservation of the CreatiVision. CREATIVEMU (CREATIVISION EMULATION CENTRAL) - NEWS 21 APRIL 2018

First post this year. Spent the past few months doing research into the CreatiVision as usual, and this time I bring a whole lot of updates and new discoveries!

The most exciting piece of news is definitely the recent discovery of original cassette tapes featuring software for the CreatiVision and Laser 2001, which were totally obscure before. And, based on the information and catalogue numbers now in our possession, I strongly believe that many more cassettes were released, that haven't surfaced yet!

The content of almost every cassette was saved to PC audio file (wav) and then converted into text and cas files for use with the CreatiVision emulators and text editors, thanks to the usual tools made by Giovani Ortu and Kym Greenshields (who I thank a lot!). Also thanks to Baz from Canberra and Ian Baronofsky for sourcing the cassettes.

More news: an old article on the CreatiVision was found on an Italian magazine and provided by Mauro Spadazzi, photos of the rare retail version of DSW keyboard/joysticks were provided by Nick Stotter, and lastly I put our hands on rare Funvision and Rameses stuff that I then scanned and added to the archive.

Si quel che dici e' tutto corretto. La multirom di TrevisoRC e' l'unica che puoi ancora reperire, altrimenti se intendi andare per la nostra Multicart dovrai trovarne una su Ebay, venduta da uno dei nostri clienti originali.
Per sviluppare decisamente il CSL Module e' la cosa migliore. Tieni presente che il BASIC contenuto li' non e' quello originale del CreatiVision (che e' una ciofeca) ma quello del Laser 2001, il computer derivato dal CreatiVision (praticamente stesso hardware ma con BASIC migliorato).

Beh e' vero e' un peccato che si sparpagli tutto, pensa mi e' stato offerto di vendere in blocco ma per me non se ne parla. Preferisco metterci il triplo del tempo a vendere, ma almeno essere sicuro che i vari pezzi vadano a chi li desidera per davvero, sai per esempio riempire i buchi nelle collezioni di tutti i miei amici. E questo e' quel che sta succedendo Mi fa piacere sapere che un pezzo di quella che un tempo era la piu' grande collezione al mondo, ora e' divisa piu' o meno equamente tra i miei amici

Se vuoi avvicinarti al mondo CreatiVision, a parte procurarti una console, ti consiglio una di queste cose homebrew:
- la cartuccia "multirom" realizzata dai ragazzi di TrevisoRC. Contiene tutti i giochi commerciali, e costa pochissimo. Viene fatta su ordinazione. Ti avrei consigliato la mia "multicart" ma e' esaurita dal 2008 e le pochissime volte in cui qualcuno ha rivenduto la propria, ho visto prezzi intorno ai 500 euro.
- la cartuccia "csl module" che e' la cartuccia totale, contiene un BASIC espanso, un banco di RAM e praticamente puoi caricarci i giochi tramite cavetto collegato al PC, oppure interfaccia bluetooth (anche questa disponibile per CreatiVision dallo stesso autore). E' un oggetto veramente favoloso

In alternativa, se vuoi andare per cose originali, se vuoi programmarci dovrai comprare la cartuccia del BASIC (e' come le varie cartucce gioco) e il registratore a cassette. Meglio anche la tastiera gommata aggiuntiva, perche' quella inclusa con la console fa un po' cagare...

Giochi... beh visto che siamo italiani, io andrei per le versioni marchiate Zanussi! Ci sono circa 15 giochi disponibili.

Perche' vivo all'estero da 3 anni e la mia collezione e' rimasta in Italia. Mi viene male portarla via e non voglio che rimanga un peso per i miei.

PS: mi scuso se tardo nelle risposte ma ancora, a distanza di 10 anni da quando sto in questo forum, non mi arrivano le notifiche delle risposte ai miei thread.

La collezione e' ora in vendita "a pezzi". Alcune cose gia' vendute, la maggior parte ancora disponibili. Non e' questo il thread per discutere offerte o vendite cmq, dunque vi chiedo di limitarvi a guardare le foto perche' e' comunque una bella collezione, ricca di pezzi molto rari e in alcuni casi, pezzi unici!

Questa collezione e' stata tirata su in 17 anni. Non dico quanto ci ho speso...
